Pathways to Innovation: a call supporting German applicants within the security research programme

European research projects enable innovation for civil security in Germany and Europe. But the road to a successful research project is long and sometimes challenging. This is especially true for applicants submitting their first European research proposal as well as practitioners and enterprises whose daily work does not include writing research proposals. They often lack not only the experience, but also the tools to organize effectively and efficiently the process of building a consortium and writing a proposal.

The call "Pathways to Innovation - Supporting Future Applicants in European Security Research" is intended to facilitate consortium building and proposal writing and to create long-term knowledge and capabilities among German applicants for writing research proposals in European security research.

Even though not directly eligible, non-German entities can indirectly benefit from funding by joining these preparatory projects as associated partners, taking part in preparatory measures such as workshops.

Information on projects receiving this initial funding will be published on this website. Additionally, you can contact the German NCP Security to reach participating institutions.

Completed projects:

From 2013 to 2015, specific schemes were in place to support German applicants. The "Future Call" and "Call Now" schemes aimed to support the efforts of public bodies authorities and security organisations as well as SMEs to form transnational European networks and help them prepare their Horizon 2020 applications. The goal was to activate untapped potential by increasing participation in European security research.

Future Call

The objective behind “Future Call” was to form transnational European networks in order to promote the internationalisation of German practitioners and SMEs. Its main focus was practitioners and SMEs looking to position themselves as stronger European players and to coordinate an EU security research project.

Call Now

This programme gave financial assistance to help end users and SMEs with the extensive preparatory work needed for an EU funding application. It was primarily intended for German-coordinated projects. In certain cases it was also possible for German partners to receive support for an application that they were not coordinating.
